4h agoI'm watching season 3 of "The Orville" and season 1 of "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" at the same. The production design and art direction on "Strange New Worlds is superior. "The Orville," on the other hand, looks like it was made in the early 1990s. Some of the cinematography is almost amateurish. I'm referring specifically to unmotivated camera angles and movements in episode 2. What's more its writers, like most television writers these days, don't know the difference between a subjective and an objective pronoun and when to use which (this drives me crazy). Despite these weaknesses and some others, I prefer "The Orville." The storytelling is better and I care much more about its characters.

13h agoThis season was fantastic, and was leaps and bounds better than any Live Star Trek show on Paramount plus. I so hope this runs for AT LEAST another 4 seasons. It is amazing.
-
1d agoVery good sci-fi series, well developed characters and storylines. Seasons two and three are very good
-
2d agoSeems like the same kind of drivel that is causing Netflix to lose subscriptions.

2d agoOh man, I really enjoyed the first season and the second season was also good but this season has really lost it's way. And I was anticipating watching this especially since Strange New Haircuts also went south rather quickly. I haven't checked the writing credits yet but the shift in tone is dark and depressing. It's just not fun to watch anymore. Edit to add: It seems to be getting better as the season goes along.

3d agoMcFarlane and his associates had the pluck to do all the reverse that the current manual of audiovisual production dictates: Have courage and elegance to treat thorny, real-life topics than any other fiction on TV or cinema only protected by a thin veil of Science-Fiction and futurism; instead of regurgitating old franchises or wearing their name as a rubber stamp. Most criticism seems to come from the fact that the series seems to have abandoned the humour for the drama. I beg to disagree. The humour is still there, like an instrument in an orchestra, which doesn't have to be played constantly, and in specific compositions, only ever so slightly. "The message", this one with equanimity and empathy for even the positions it argues, takes precedence and in this case, it's totally fine. The spirit is obviously progressive, but it doesn't underestimate a conservative viewer. It tells them "I don't agree with you, but I feel for you".

3d agoSci-Fi with just the right amount of humor. Fantastic cast with engaging stories. Sure, Orville was inspired by Star Trek (especially STNG). Nevertheless, I'd rather watch the Orville than any of the other Trek stuff on Paramount Plus.
-
3d agoSeason 3 has had a very abrupt change in tone and seems to not even try to be amusing. Just gives it a dark but not gritty feel, more a depressing rather than enthralling watch
-
3d agoStill my favorite sci-fi show. Not just flying around shooting at things. I like all the Star Trek shows, but I'd rather serve on The Orville.

3d agoLove this show its scfi fun great cast great adventures hope we get more seasons
