A lazy, laugh-free comedy that's destined to serve as background noise for Netflix users.

It is the year 2022 and I cannot believe we are reciting the mistaken-identity-undercover-help-government-agencies plot for an action buddy comedy. Thanks a lot, John Le Carre.

It’s a sore spot knowing a film like this will gain far more traction by default by hitting targets on an algorithm rather than having any level of quality associated with it.

One wonders if the true objective of The Man From Toronto is to torture an innocent spectator deceived by the big red N and its top 10. [Full review in Spanish]

The Man from Toronto is an action-comedy that doesn’t deliver on either of those fronts. With convenient plot points and a weak story, it’s one of Netflix’s weakest originals.

Although Hart, as the broadly comic version of the classic Hitchcockian Wrong Man, has a certain goofball charm, his frantic coward routine gets old quickly, with no appreciable change as the action-flick danger continues to escalate.

A film that all but wastes The Rookie’s Mathews and, criminally, Kaley Cuoco, this really does feel like a poor facsimile of the hit action-comedies of ‘90s like Lethal Weapon and Bad Boys

It’s as if boxes on a studio list of “obligatory unlikely-buddy action-movie clichés” were being systemically checked off

The film lacks one thing that’s essential for a solid home viewing experience: fun.

Hart is something of a stocky comic iron man, a scrappy pro with the ability to twist and bend even the lousiest dialogue into a pretzel shape that can make you laugh despite yourself. Afterward, you may be laughing more at yourself than anything.

It’s unclear how any of the people responsible for this abomination of a film would think any of it is actually entertaining, but none of their efforts are apparent on screen.

The Man from Toronto feels like the cold leftovers of a meal I didn't much like in the first place.

The Man from Toronto becomes one of those movies where you check how much longer is left, and think, "There's still 40 minutes?!"

... Effective, entertaining, and nothing more. [Full review in Spanish]

The only fresh thing the film has to offer is the chemistry between Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson... which is more than enough to sustain entertainment levels. [Full review in Spanish]

...exceedingly (and often excessively) hit-and-miss...

The Man from Toronto features a story that isn’t all that interesting or memorable. The two leads have chemistry, and the end fight sequence is riveting, but the overall experience is lacking a compelling script.

Another unimaginative piece of content designed to placate instead of thrill.

Harrelson is as effective a foil here as he is a credible Canadian, which is to say, not at all.

There are hundreds of mismatched-buddy comedies, and this minor variation on the formula brings nothing fresh to the genre. It's stale, annoyingly busy, and altogether unfunny.
